Adam Manilla
Adam Manilla is the owner and creator of Manilla Athletics. In January of 2020 he decided to follow his dream and take the small window of opportunity to become a full-time professional racquetball athlete. Climbing the National ranks, he is #2 in the USA for Mens Singles and Doubles, and #1 in the USA for Mixed Doubles. On the professional International Racquetball Tour he continues to climb the ranks and is currently #7 in the World.
He created Manilla Athletics as a way to help athletes that don’t have access to a coach or do not have the funds. He states “with Manilla Athletics I am able to the grow the sport of racquetball in a digital way and give anyone the chance to improve and get better”. This is where the mission statement was derived: providing professional coaching to all athletes no matter the location, and to all skill levels.
Adam resides in San Jose, California. He has his bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, and worked at Singularity University as Innovation Lab Engineer. He started playing racquetball at the age of 8 years old and had always dreamt of becoming the best racquetball player in the world. He expresses with confidence “I fully intend on being the best player in the world and will not let anything stop me from getting there”. Outside of the court, Adam enjoys traveling, golfing, skiing, and spending time with family and friends. Most importantly, his passion is helping others improve both their health and racquetball game. He is committed to help you improve when you are ready.
Bobby Horn
David Horn, also well known from his nickname, Bobby Horn, is from Stockton, CA and now lives and coaches in Pleasanton, CA.
He is a full time coach, personal trainer, and athlete who has dedicated himself to learn and understand the game of racquetball and the human body. His true secret power is his ability to study old and current film to gain knowledge, and then explain this in an understanding way to all levels of athletes. He states “few people are willing to spend hours and hours gaining knowledge and learning the game in a new perspective, that is my strength.”
Horn has a different racquetball story than most professionals, because he did not start playing until his mid teens, and only started training (seriously) after college. He comments, “I was a recreation player like most of you”. He started training with John Ellis as an A player, and that spun into him becoming #1 on the World Racquetball Tour. Horn states, “with the right training and guidance, I was able to raise my level to the pro game, and looking back now I can give that training and guidance to others”.
Manilla jumps in stating, “what Bobby is humble to not say, and few know, is the time and dedication that he spent learning and mastering his craft on and off the court. If you had the opportunity to watch him play, you know what a treat it is to see him glide, dive and climb across the court. Now seeing him as well respected coach, watch his actions outside the court or the words he says during practice. He not only knows a huge amount of knowledge, but will find the best way to implement it into your game.”
Bobby’s history and journey helped him grow into an incredible coach. He emphasizes “I have been through the same struggles as a lot of you are going through right now. I am very happy to be a part of the team here at Manilla Athletics and help others reach their goals.” Not only has the team and athletes on the platform brought him out of retirement from professional racquetball, they have inspired him to continue to compete. He looks forward to working with you all! We are a true team.
Annie Roberts
Annie Roberts is a thriving up and coming USA athlete who has shown class, athleticism, and unreal capability in our sport. Dominating the National tour as a USA Junior athlete she is transitioning to start climbing the ranks on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour.
Annie is a Portland, Oregon native and is pursuing her bachelors degree in Health and Exercise Science in Stockton, CA. Starting racquetball at the age of 13, she came running out of the gates winning a Junior National Championship and never looked back. Since 2015 she has won every Junior National, High School National and Collegiate National Championship Title. She states “my juniors racquetball career was built on hard work and determination”.
Annie emphasizes and showcases that hard work and dedication are always in the recipe for success. When looking to take her skills to the top level to compete on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour, and compete at the World Championships she found Manilla Athletics. She humbly states “when I partnered with coaches who gave me guidance specific to my game and my goals, I saw my hard work pay off, seeing more progress in 1 year than in the last 7 years of training. When I began playing racquetball, I had no experience nor any outstanding talent. I believe that anyone that’s holding a racquet and is disciplined towards their goals can be a champion”. Annie is not only a phenomenal coach that has put in the work herself but has been through the platform as an athlete, being a testament to the program, and understands what it takes to succeed. Annie encourages “I am excited to motivate and coach you to be the best athlete you can be, and I will help you see your full potential just as other coaches have helped me”.
